As wild as it sounds, I’ve been a paid guitar teacher since I was 15 years old when my high school personal teacher asked me if I’d teach her two sons after school. I’ve always loved explaining things to people as I love learning and feel when you’re really learned something you should be able to explain it to someone else, so I was happy to do it… then she said “I’ll obviously pay you” and a lightbulb went off. I can make money doing the thing I love.
 
I’ve taught ever since. Even while at music school, I was teaching on the side. I was fortune enough that one of my tutors, Martin Goulding, saw something in me and put me forward for some residential guitar teaching positions at both IGF and the ICMP teaching summer camps. I used this to score a teaching position at a school in Camden. From there I would move to Licklibrary where I would start moving towards filming educational DVDs and do a lot of written work for magazines like Premier Guitar magazine and then books with Fundamental Changes.
 
Because of these outfits putting my name in front of literally millions of guitarists the world over, I’ve been busy teaching people all over the world since.
 
As a teacher I describe myself as a music teacher, not a guitar teacher. I’m interested in all the aspects of music that are often ignored in the pursuit of technique. Fretboard knowledge, ear training, vocabulary etc. My job is to make you a better musician, because there’s a million teachers out there who will teach you guitar and not much more.
